1) We demand the unification of all Germans in the Greater Germany on the basis of the people's right to self-determination.
Because this statement has inherently racist assumptions to it, it's hard for the modern mind to grasp and especially the American mind, so perhaps it is not either Right nor Left in the American sense, in that both sides would reject the assumptions behind it. However, due to the fact that this statement includes the confiscation of land from another existing country, [Czechoslovakia, then Poland] it seems to fit better with the Communist tendencies of Russia [U.S.S.R.] and of China [Tibet, Taiwan.] Therefore, I am going to give #1 to the Leftist side.
2) We demand the equality of rights for the German people in respect to the other nations; abrogation of the peace treaties of Versailles and St. Germain.
It is true that the peace treaties of Versailles and St. Germain were rather harsh, and the crushing economic results for Germany after WWI were obviously counter-productive to the goal of long-term peace in Europe. That is a study in and of itself. But Germany was a big part of starting WWI, so 're-negotiation' of those treaties would be better than just outright 'abrogation' of them. 'Nullification' of international treaties is neither 'Right-wing' nor 'Left-wing' even though some 'Right-wingers' might say that we should not get into any 'International-Treaties' in the first place. Further, I think it likely that peace treaties, like what the U.S. did with Japan, can't be categorized as either 'Left' or 'Right' following major wars.
3) We demand land and territory (colonies) for the sustenance of our people, and colonization for our surplus population.
Now I understand that in Europe, this might be considered a 'Right-wing' statement because it is overtly imperialistic. However, from an American perspective, colonization is not itself inherently 'bad', as Americans are 90% colonists themselves, but does often have a rather negative history in how it happened. No conservative today would agree to the above statement, therefore it has to be neutral in the present context.
4) Only a Member of the Race can be a Citizen. A member of the race can only be one who is of German blood, without consideration of Creed. Consequentially, no Jew can be a member of the race.
Nearly all Americans today would be horrified by this statement, however, historically, it has been the Democrat Party (the Left) that has the deepest ties to Racism and especially Segregation. [e.g. Strom Thurmond.] So if this point gets a 'Left/Right' label at all, it would have to be 'Left-wing' in the American context. Perhaps not in a European Context, but I don't know, so I'll leave this one as neither Left nor Right.]
5) Whoever has no citizenship is to be able to live in Germany only as a guest, and must be under the authority of Legislation for Foreigners.
This point is entirely based on the definition of 'Citizenship' and therefore can only be a reflection of point # 4 above.
6) The right to determine matters concerning Administration and Law belongs only to the citizen. Therefore, we demand that every Public Office, of any sort whatsoever, whether in the Reich, the County, or Municipality, be filled only by citizens. We combat the corrupting Parliamentary economy, office-holding only according to party inclinations without consideration of character or abilities.
This point is built on the definition of Citizen also and therefore is a reflection of #4. However I will point out that the last sentence of #6 seems to elevate 'Party-Inclinations' above character and abilities. If you look at some of the longest term members of the Congress who have a D behind their name, it becomes pretty obvious that much of 'Left-wing' of America seems to vote without regard to character or abilities. But you, dear reader, can be the judge of that.
7) We demand that the State be charged first with providing the opportunity for a livelihood and way of life for the Citizens. If it is impossible to sustain the total population of the State, then the members of foreign nations (non-citizens) are to be expelled from the Reich.
The problem with this statement is that it does not make any differentiation between legal, and illegal immigrants. And, more importantly, their definition of 'Citizen' has serious problems per #4 above. However, a conservative would contend that it is absurd to assume that the 'State' is responsible to 'provide' the opportunity for a livelihood. Only a Leftist in America would call on the State to 'Provide Jobs'. The whole point of true Conservatism is that the Government tends to take two jobs out of the private sector for every one Government Job in the Bureaucracy. So even # 7 is more 'Leftist' than otherwise.
8) Any further immigration of non-Citizens is to be prevented. We demand that all non-Germans, who have immigrated to Germany since 2 August 1914, be forced immediately to leave the Reich.
The majority of the Media in America would like us to believe that Conservatives are against all immigration. However, I'll bet that most conservatives are immigrants, or children of immigrants, themselves! In this regard, America is vastly different than Europe. Personally, I am the great-grandson of immigrants, and my wife is herself an immigrant. We are very much pro-immigration, and very 'conservative', though I am more Libertarian. The critical difference is in legal vs. illegal immigration. Along with many other conservatives, I believe that Legal immigration should be vastly easier and less complicated than it is now to reduce the back-log. But illegal immigration should be deterred more effectively. Basically, with regard to immigration, the government ineptitude at the highest levels is the main source of the problem. So I cannot put #8 in either the Liberal, nor Conservative category. In this point, the Nazi party was uniquely Xenophobic.
9) All Citizens must have equal rights and obligations.
This point sounds great, however it is horrible when you include their unique definition of 'Citizen' from Point #4. but even if you took an American definition of 'Citizen' the first part [Equal Rights] would be claimed by the Left, and the last part [equal obligations] would be claimed by the Right.
10) The first obligation of every Citizen must be to work both spiritually and physically. The activity of individuals is not to counteract the interest of the universality, but must have its result within the framework of the whole for the benefit of all. Consequently we demand [the following]:
Now, at first glance, that first sentence sounds rather conservative, however when you look at the last sentence the reader should quickly realize that when the Government is dictating what the "interest of the universality" actually is, and not the Free Market, then you have Socialism that devolves into pure Communism. Therefore the Nazi Party hated the Russian inspired Communist Party, not on Ideological grounds, but because they were direct competition for like-minded supporters.
11) Abolition of unearned (work and labour) incomes. Breaking of debt (interest) slavery.
The first sentence would be considered rather extreme Conservatism in America, and the latter sentence is something advocated by the 'Occupy-Wall-Street' crowd who tend to lean a bit Left-wing. So this point is a wash in the 'Left-wing' versus 'Right-wing' tally.
12) In consideration of the monstrous sacrifice in property and blood that each War demands of the people, personal enrichment through a war must be designated as a crime against the people. Therefore we demand the total confiscation of all war profits.
This is a transparently Communist style proclamation, and therefore falls to the Leftists score. It was the government's idea to go to war in the first place, so this point is just an excuse to steal private property at the whim of the government power brokers.
13) We demand the Nationalization of all (previous) associated industries (trusts).
This is also a Communist style 'solution'. If they are here referring to Monopolies in particular industries then the Conservative solution would be to break up the Monopoly to enable the free market competition to solve the problems with a Monopoly. However, a Libertarian would argue that if there was a true free market in a country, then there would never be a Monopoly in any industry because if a company was charging too much for their good or service, then an Entrepreneur would pop up with cheaper pricing and customers would flock to the new business. Apple versus Microsoft for example. Government interference was completely and utterly unnecessary.
14) We demand a division of profits of all Heavy Industries. [Obviously Communist]
15) We demand an expansion on a large scale of the old age welfare. [Obviously Socialist]
16) We demand the creation of a healthy middle class and it's conservation, immediate communalization of the great warehouses and their being leased at low cost to small firms, the utmost consideration of all small firms in contracts with the State, county, or municipality.
Wow, could that not be more 'Left-wing' and in following with Marxist Communism? Even a conservative would agree that contracts with the government have to be fair and balanced in contract awards. And any economist would agree that a robust and healthy middle class is the sign of a healthy country, even though the government does NOT 'create' the Middle class. But the 'Communalization of big warehouses' takes the cake here for the Lefties.
17) We demand a Land Reform suitable to our needs, provision of a law for the free Expropriation of land for the purposes of public utility, abolition of taxes on land, and prevention of all speculation in land.
Again, this point is blatently on the Communism side of the spectrum, except for the 'No taxes on Land' provision. That seems rather Conservative. Strange mixture of thought, but on the balance, #17 tips to the Leftie side with the 'prevention of all land speculation.' Very anti-free-market.
18) We demand struggle without consideration against those whose activity is injurious to the general interest. Common national criminals, usurers, profiteers and so forth are to be punished with death, without consideration of confession, or race.
Wow, equal opportunity for the capital punishment, even for those who charge people interest for a loan. Usually, in America, the Leftists are against Capital Punishment for any and all crimes. However, over the last century, it has been consistently the Communists and Socialists who kill people for charging interest, or being successful in business [a.k.a. Profiteers.] So the basic idea of criminalizing the free-market and success would have to actually be Leftist, even though our American Leftists have yet to call for death for the rich. [Only mega-taxes for the rich...thus far.]
19) We demand substitution of a German 'Common Law' in place of the 'Roman Law' serving a materialistic world-order. [This one I cannot make a determination on without consulting a historical law professor.]
20) The state is to be responsible for a fundamental reconstruction of our whole national education program, to enable every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education and subsequent introduction into leading positions. The plans of instruction of all educational institutions are to conform with the experience of practical life. The comprehension of the concept of the State must be striven for by the school, as early as the beginning of understanding. We demand the education at the expense of the State of outstanding intellectually gifted children of poor parents without consideration of positions of profession.
Could that be any more socialistic? I agree with only one sentence in this point, that of education conforming to the experience of practical life. I agree that we need more Vocational-Technical schools in our society. However the rest of point # 20 is very Communist and very 'Big Brother' government indoctrinating the kids from young age to worship the national government. Obviously this point falls to the Leftist side of the spectrum.
21) The state is to care for elevating national health by protecting the mother and child, by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young.
Now I fully agree that physical fitness is important to 'encourage' or 'incentivize', however a gymnastic and sport obligation takes away free will and follows from a wrong-headed top-down approach to improving the country. That smacks of Communism and left-wing thinking. There is no problem with a city voting build a Basketball court, or a Skate-park for the kids. However, forcing the kids to play a sport whether they like it or not, is wrong. Have you ever seen a musician playing so passionately they were sweating? Well, that would be a better workout than golfing. And a central-planner will likely force the musician to play a sport when they would rather be playing the fiddle. And Ironically, they'd probably get a better workout playing the fiddle! But freedom is the issue here. And 'top-down' national health laws that force people to fit the Politician's mold is bound for failure, every time.
22) We demand abolition of the mercenary troops and the formation of a national army. [This one doesn't really apply to 21st century America. I think most Americans on either the Left or Right would oppose using mercenary troops instead of a National Army. Our founding fathers were clear on that regard.]
23) We demand legal opposition to known lies and their promulgation through the press. In order to enable the provision of a German press, we demand that: a) All writers and employees of the newspapers appearing in the German language be member of the Race. b) Non-German newspapers be required to have the express permission of the State to be published. They may not be printed in the German language. c) Non-Germans are forbidden by law any financial interest in German publications, or any influence on them, and as punishment for violations the closing of such a publication as well as the immediate expulsion from the Reich of the non-German concerned. Publications which are counter to the general good are to be forbidden. We demand legal prosecution of artistic and literary forms which exert a destructive influence on our national life, and the closure of organizations opposing the above made demands.
Well this is the most plain promotion of denying the Freedom of the Press as enshrined in our own U.S. Constitution that I've ever read. This point sounds like something from George Orwell's book 1984. In the United States currently, it is only the Left wing politicians that have been called for various forms of restrictions on Free Speech and Freedom of the Press. [e.g. the infamously misnamed "Fairness Doctrine."] Conservatives believe in the power of the free market to weed out the really bad and un-truthful news organizations. The internet is just accelerating that trend. If the government ever criminalizes the free press in a country, absolute tyranny is just days or weeks away.
24) We demand freedom of religion for all religious denominations within the state so long as they do not endanger its existence or oppose the moral senses of the German race. The Party as such advocates the standpoint of a 'Positive Christianity ' without binding itself confessionally to any one denomination. It combats the Jewish-materialistic spirit within and around us, and is convinced that a lasting recovery of our nation can only succeed from within this framework: The good of the state before the good of the individual.
This point seems to start out sounding a bit 'Rightwing' since the Leftists of America tend to emphasize a lopsided 'Freedom-From-religion' not 'Freedom-OF-religion.' However when you read the last half of the point it becomes clear that their philosophy of Politics is greatly aligned with Communism and is therefore rather 'Left-leaning.' I also must note that Hitler wrote many hateful statements against the Christian religion generally in his last 5 years in power. It wasn't until he was safely in absolute power that his true feelings about Christians came out. Previous to that he was a very two-faced Politician.
25) For the execution of all of this we demand the formation of a strong central power in the Reich. Unlimited authority of the central parliament of the whole Reich and its organizations in general. The forming of state and professional chambers for the execution of the laws made by the Reich within the various states of the confederation. The leaders of the Party promise, if necessary by sacrificing their own lives, to support by the execution of the points set forth above without consideration.
Wow, if that isn't an over-the-top communist statement, then what is? And rather militant at that. Again, the last point has to go to the Leftists... yet again.
The Tally:
Of the 25 total points, 11 of them could not be assigned to either Left or Right sides of the American Political spectrum. They were a wash. Of the 14 remaining points, every single one of them mirrored, to some degree, the political though of the American Liberal establishment. So with a score of 14 to 0, the Lefties get the award of matching up with the National Socialist German Workers Party of 1920. Now my Liberal friends have two choices, either stop voting blindly for Democrats, or stop using the Left/Right spectrum and instead embrace the 4 sided political chart I have posted previously.
